Support Betiel – A Promising Cyclist Starting a New Chapter

We are reaching out to you to share a special story and to ask for your support.

The Red Cross (Croix-Rouge) recently introduced us to Betiel, an 18-year-old cyclist from Eritrea who has just been granted refugee status in Belgium.

Despite her young age, Betiel has already achieved remarkable success in competitive cycling, including winning the African Junior Women’s Time Trial in 2024.

Beyond her results, Betiel stands out for her determination, discipline, and genuine passion for the sport. Cycling is not only her talent—it is her ambition and her future. Now, as she begins a new chapter in Belgium, she hopes to continue pursuing that dream.

Cycling is not only her talent — it is her ambition and her future.

After meeting Betiel, we felt strongly that her journey is one worth supporting. As a club, we are committed to helping her return to structured training and competition at a high level. Our goal is to welcome Betiel into our community, providing her with guidance, stability, and encouragement as she builds her life here. At the same time, we will actively seek opportunities for her to compete and continue developing as an athlete.

Last year, a BBB member generously donated a bike to Betiel. While we are already working to provide club kit, equipment, and training support, a few essential items are still needed to ensure she is fully equipped. We are therefore raising funds to cover cycling clothing, a helmet, a heart-rate monitor, a gym subscription and additional training necessities.

If you would like to support Betiel at this important moment, any contribution—large or small—will make a meaningful difference. Your support will help ensure she has the tools she needs to train, compete, and thrive.

We are looking forward to having Betiel on our club rides and to seeing this talented young athlete realise her full potential.

Warm regards,

Yvonne G., for BBB Committee.
