RULES OF THE CHALLENGE

The Challenge will run through the winter months and will allow you to show the effect of your awesome training by setting personal best times up a dozen selected hills. Who knows, you might even be strong enough to make it on the leaderboard for a given hill or your incredible consistency might hoist you up the overall points classification!

Each week a hill is open for competition. The challenge is advertised the week before on Strava. Anyone is invited to have a go at setting the fastest time up the selected hill.

Depending on the year, we might propose from 5 to 10 hills, with a “Grande Finale” or not. We might propose gravel segments as well for another kind of challenge, that will be kept separated from the road challenge.

Ride strong, ride safe, ride uphill

  1. Each hill corresponds to a Strava segment. Be sure to check the segment in advance to make sure you know the landmark that indicates the start and finish line.
  2. The start and stop line are taken from Strava.
  3. This is a solo effort that you do on any day that suits you that week.
  4. Participants must ride alone and cannot benefit from the draft of other riders or vehicles.
  5. Starting at speed is permitted.
  6. Timing is only accounted for between the start and stop segment.
  7. Timing is managed by a GPS recording uploaded to Strava.
  8. Participants must post their ride publicly on Strava and be members of the BHCC Strava Club for results to be registered.
  9. Rides of the week must be sent before Sunday 20h00. After that, there is no possibility to modify, upload or ask for any kind of correction.
  10. You are free to ride up the hill as many times as you feel like it.

A leaderboard is established each week, for each challenge (“Road” – “Gravel”).
There are two different classifications : one for women, one for men.

The point based leaderboard is established over all hills with a grand winner announced at the end of the season. Points for the general classification are awarded with the following rules:

  • participation to a hill automatically awards you 200 points.
  • your ranking on a hill gives you : 201 – #RankOnHill

If you participate on a hill, you can thus cumulate a maximum of 400 points per hill for first place and a minimum of 200 for placings 201 and beyond.

Complementary rules:

  • Your worst performance will be erased at the end of the challenge. This “worst performance” can be a bad ranking or even a no “show”. It will be automatically erased after the 5th round of the challenge.
  • The “grande finale” counts as full part of the challenge : you’ll have to be present on Sunday 18 February to get points for the general classification.

The winner of each general classification (man / woman) will have the opportunity to get the BHCC collector “winner jersey”.

COLLECTION OF BHCC ROUTES

The routes’ makers and reviewers of Brussels Big Brackets have prepared routes that include hills selected for BHCC all over the years. One route will take you for a scenic ~50km ride, the other for a ~90km ride.

You’ll find here those suggested rides that include the hills of BHCC.
